Support
The fastest private way to capture text from anywhere on screen, clean it up, and find it again later — Instant OCR hotkey, permissions, and troubleshooting.
How to capture text
- Keep Snap2Text running from the menu bar.
- Press ⌘⇧O (Instant OCR).
- Drag a region over any on-screen text.
- Recognized text is copied to the clipboard.
- Use the result HUD for Copy, Clean Up, Pin, or History.
On first launch, grant Screen Recording (region capture) and Accessibility (global hotkey). Nothing leaves your Mac for OCR.
FAQ
Yes. OCR uses Apple’s Vision framework on-device. Captures and searchable history stay on your Mac. Snap2Text does not upload screenshots for cloud OCR.
Live Text works well inside Photos, Preview, and Safari. Snap2Text is the hotkey for anywhere else — slides, video frames, locked PDFs, remote desktops, dialogs — with cleanup and searchable history.
Instant region OCR, result HUD (Copy / Clean Up / Pin / History), QR/barcode copy or open URL, text cleanup, and searchable on-device history. One-time Mac App Store purchase — no subscription.
Snap2Text is built around region capture from the screen, not a drag-and-drop image OCR workstation. Use ⌘⇧O over whatever is visible.
Locally on your Mac. Search and re-copy from the menu bar history. Clearing history or uninstalling the app removes local data.
Troubleshooting
Hotkey does nothing
- Enable Accessibility for Snap2Text in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Check for hotkey conflicts with other apps; change the shortcut in Preferences if needed.
- Confirm Snap2Text is running in the menu bar.
Capture is blank or fails
- Enable Screen Recording for Snap2Text in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- After granting permission, quit and reopen Snap2Text.
- Try a smaller, higher-contrast region.
OCR looks messy
- Select a tighter region around the text.
- Use Clean Up in the result HUD (join lines, trim, normalize bullets).
- Very small, skewed, or low-contrast text is harder for Vision to read.
System requirements
