1. Introduction

Snap2Text is a native macOS menu bar utility that captures a screen region, recognizes text with Apple’s Vision framework on-device, copies results to the clipboard, and stores items in private local history for cleanup and recall.

Commitment: OCR and history stay on your Mac. We do not operate a cloud OCR service and do not upload your screenshots or extracted text for recognition. This policy covers the App and the Site.

2. Information processed on your device (App)

Under Apple’s App Privacy definitions, data that stays only on your device and is never transmitted to AppVantix is generally not “collected” by us. The following is processed locally so the App can function:

2.1 Screen captures

• What: Image data of the region you select when using Instant OCR
• When: Only when you trigger capture (default shortcut ⌘⇧O)
• Purpose: On-device text (and QR/barcode) recognition with Apple Vision
• Storage: Processed locally; related preview/thumbnail data may be kept with history items you retain on-device
• Transmission to AppVantix: None

2.2 Extracted text and history

• What: Text recognized from your capture (and cleanup variants you apply)
• Purpose: Clipboard copy, result HUD actions, and searchable history
• Storage: Copied to the system clipboard; also stored locally in Snap2Text history until you delete items or clear history
• Transmission to AppVantix: None

2.3 App settings

• What: Preferences such as hotkey, sounds, appearance, and ignore rules
• Storage: Locally on your Mac (for example UserDefaults / local app storage)
• Transmission to AppVantix: None

3. Information related to purchases and Apple

Mac App Store purchases, receipts, refunds, and related account data are processed by Apple under Apple’s terms and privacy policy. AppVantix does not receive your payment card number from Apple for standard App Store purchases.

4. Website information

When you visit snap2text.app:

• Server / hosting logs: Our hosting provider may automatically process standard technical data (such as IP address, user agent, timestamps, and requested URLs) to deliver and secure the Site. Retention depends on the host’s configuration.
• Cookies and similar technologies: The Site does not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics SDKs as of the date above. Essential delivery may involve ordinary browser/cache behavior. If we add analytics later, we will update this policy and, where required, obtain consent.
• Email: If you email [email protected] or [email protected], we process the content of your message and your email address to respond.

5. How we use information

• Provide on-device OCR, clipboard, HUD, and local history features
• Remember your preferences on your Mac
• Operate and secure the Site
• Respond to support and privacy requests
• Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Use

We do not use your captures or text for advertising, cross-app tracking, cloud analytics profiles, or third-party model training.

6. Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share screenshot images or extracted history text with third parties for marketing or cloud OCR.

We may disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or to service providers who process Site hosting/email solely on our instructions (and who are not given your OCR history, which stays on your Mac).

7. App Store privacy labels and privacy manifest

Consistent with on-device processing, App Store Connect App Privacy for Snap2Text is intended to reflect that AppVantix does not collect user data from the App for transmission off-device. The App includes an Apple privacy manifest declaring Required Reason API usage (such as UserDefaults and file timestamp APIs used for normal app functionality) and that the App does not engage in tracking.

Optional crash or diagnostic data that you enable at the system level may be handled by Apple under Apple’s policies; that is separate from AppVantix cloud OCR (which we do not operate).

8. Local storage and security

• On-device OCR: Apple Vision runs locally
• Local history: History persists on your Mac until you remove it
• No cloud OCR: The shipping product does not send screenshots to AppVantix servers for recognition
• Sandbox: The Mac App Store build operates within Apple’s sandbox rules

Note: macOS itself may sync the system clipboard via Continuity features you enable; that is controlled by Apple and your system settings, not by Snap2Text uploading OCR payloads.

9. Your controls

• Delete individual history items or clear history in the App
• Change preferences in Snap2Text Settings
• Revoke Screen Recording or Accessibility in System Settings → Privacy & Security
• Uninstall the App to remove local app data (subject to macOS uninstall behavior)
• Contact us to request deletion of emails you sent us

10. Permissions

Screen Recording: Required to capture the region you select for OCR.

Accessibility: Required for the global Instant OCR hotkey.

Optional folder access may be requested only if you enable optional screenshot-folder monitoring. Permissions are used only for these features and only when you use them.

11. Children (COPPA)

Snap2Text is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us via email or the Site, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.

12. U.S. state privacy rights (including CCPA/CPRA)

Depending on your state, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of certain personal information, and to opt out of “sale” or “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising.

• We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
• We do not use sensitive personal information from the App for inferring characteristics; App OCR content stays on your device.
• To exercise rights regarding information we actually hold (typically support emails), email [email protected]. We will verify and respond as required by applicable law.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.

13. International users (including GDPR/UK GDPR)

If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland and contact us, AppVantix LLC is the controller of personal data in those emails. Legal bases typically include: performing a contract or pre-contract support requests; legitimate interests in operating a secure Site and improving support; and compliance with legal obligations.

You may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Because App OCR data is not transmitted to us, we cannot access or delete history stored only on your Mac—you control that locally.

14. Retention

• On-device history/settings: Until you delete them or remove the App
• Support emails: As long as needed to resolve your request and for legitimate business/legal records (generally up to 24 months unless a longer period is required)
• Hosting logs: Per host defaults / security needs

15. Changes

We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Material changes may also be noted in the App Store listing or in-app.
